Leaders of the three West Nordic countries, Iceland, Greenland and the Faroe Islands, will meet in Iceland on 7 October. Kristrún Frostadóttir, the Prime Minister of Iceland, will receive her counterparts Jens Frederik Nielsen, Prime Minister of Greenland, and Beinir Johannesen, Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands, in their first official visit to Iceland since taking office. In Iceland the Premiers will discuss issues of mutual interest such as the geopolitical situation in the North Atlantic and Arctic and closer economic cooperation.

During the visit the Premiers will visit the Keflavík Air Base (KAB) and be briefed on Icelandic security and operational defence tasks. The West Nordic leaders will then discuss the geopolitical situation in the Arctic and North Atlantic as well as discussing the economic outlook of the West Nordic Countries and opportunities in closer cooperation.

Greenland and the Faroe Islands are Iceland‘s closest neighbours and partners and the importance of the West Nordic region for Iceland was underscored by PM Frostadóttir‘s two first official visits in office, to Thórshavn in May last year, and to Nuuk in October.
