About the web
At a cabinet meeting on 26 June 2018, the Icelandic government agreed to open a portal on the government's website where everyone would be able to submit their priorities, projects and ideas in connection with the UN Sustainable Development Goals to the SDG project management for Iceland. The adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals is not a task limited to the government; it will require the combined efforts of many different stakeholders for them to become a reality.
The purpose of this website is to ensure good consultation and information sharing about the SDGs between the government and stakeholders, including companies, NGOs, experts in the various fields, students and individuals.
The project management considered several foreign models for the development of the website, for example, that of Finland, where for years a portal has been maintained where close to one thousand parties, businesses, educational institutions, municipalities, NGOs and others, have committed to work towards the Sustainable Development Goals by submitting projects. The idea is that anyone, who contributes in some manner to the progress of the SDGs, can communicate information on their projects to the project management and others through the web.
The projects submitted must meet several criteria. They must include new, measurable targets that contribute to sustainable development and thereby the advancement of the SDGs. A time schedule must also be presented for the project and a specified date when the goal will be achieved.

Q&A:
What is the purpose of the website?
The purpose of the website is to mobilise society as a whole to work towards the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and to ensure good consultation and information sharing between the government and stakeholders about the goals. On the website you can therefore find the projects of institutions, businesses, NGOs, municipalities and even individuals who all have the common goal of contributing to the advancement of the SDGs. In this way, these parties commit themselves to work to create a better and more sustainable society for all of us.
Why should I post my project on this site?
Submitting projects through the portal can be motivating for institutions, businesses, NGOs, municipalities and individuals to increase sustainability in their daily activities. Submitting a project can also be a useful way to draw attention to good projects and present yourself as a pioneer in the field of sustainable development. The portal can also be used to seek inspiration from others with similar ideas and even to find potential partners.
Can I post an old project?
Projects which have been completed and are no longer in progress are not eligible. However, older projects which are still underway and aimed at a goal which has not yet been achieved can be submitted.
How can I edit and amend information about a project once submitted?
A project page cannot be edited after a project has been submitted. You can contact the website's editorial board by sending an email to [email protected].
How will the projects be followed up on?
Users are expected to submit a report within a year explaining the status of the project. The editorial team will get in touch with contact persons and request information.
Can I use the web to find potential partners?
It is not possible to communicate directly with others through the web. However, foreign examples have shown that a platform like this often gives rise to further co-operation between parties. Such spontaneous developments are a pleasant addition to projects that are already underway.
