Project description

Businesses have an important role to play in development co-operation and the Sustainable Development Goals related to it. Development Co-operation Brings Results focuses on educating businesses about the opportunities available to them. A video will be produced and a seminar offered to company employees and managers. The project is a joint effort of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Icelandic humanitarian organisations that work on development co-operation: ABC Children's Aid, Save the Children Iceland, Icelandic Church Aid, the Christian Mission, UNICEF, UN Women, the Red Cross in Iceland, SOS Children's Village and Sól in Togo. The United Nations Association in Iceland acts as project manager.

Objectives of the project

Increased participation of Icelandic businesses in development co-operation. Special emphasis is placed on co-operation between businesses and non-governmental organisations in long-term development projects. Raising awareness about the role and opportunities of businesses in development co-operation.

When is the target expected to be achieved?

The project will take place in the form of a campaign on the 9th-13th of next September.

Measurement of performance

In the spring of 2020 the organisations will assess the increase in businesses’ participation in development cooperation.

The awareness raising of Development Co-operation Brings Results 2019 focuses on educating businesses about the opportunities available to them. A video was produced and a seminar offered to company employees and managers. The project is a joint effort of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Icelandic humanitarian organisations that work on development co-operation. Its aim is to draw attention to the importance of development co-operation and the fight against poverty and hunger in the world. According to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the eradication of hunger and poverty in all its manifestations is the most urgent task at the global level and is an indispensable requirement for sustainable development.
